Artist Tommy Flynn has been long acknowledged for his detailed photographs. He received scholarships to The Art Institute of Boston for Photography back in 1975 and 1976. While cooking with a mushroom in his kitchen many years later, Flynn saw the potential floral beauty of the vegetable sliced open. He considered documenting other vegetable – halves, like radishes, red cabbages, leeks, artichokes, and carrots… The photos were shot with a medium format film camera, a Mamiya 645 with a 120mm macro lens using Fuji Velvia film.

“Sliced Open” is Flynn’s aesthetic and conceptual body of work, enticing the viewer to give thanks for our edibles.
