Woodward Gallery is proud to open the new year with Jaggu Prasad & Co.- Transcending Nature: Page by Page, an exhibition of artists from India who have collaborated to create a page by page Trompe-l’oeil of nature.
Trained in the Persian Miniature style of painting, these artists use paintbrushes with only a single otter hair to capture intricate details. Just as a Persian rug is measured in terms of the amount of knots per square inch, so also is a miniature painting.
Painted in the shape of an open book, this exhibition stands out in all the realism that the Trompe-l’oeil school of painting demands. Upon closer scrutiny, you begin to realize the minute ‘dot-man ship’ of the painter. Trompe-l’oeil paintings take realism to its furthest extreme. These artists are truly experts at transcending the viewer’s perception with their superb use of color, meticulous attention to detail combined with an almost reverential delicacy.
Artist Jaggu Prasad and Company have sold their works at Christie’s of London, and are in the permanent museum collections throughout the world.
