Deborah Claxton
AMERICAN CUT PAPER ARTIST
With roots in sculpture and drawing, Claxton defies logic by painstakingly drawing a map with hundreds of designated numbered points of color. From this exquisitely detailed map, her elevated sculptural awareness comes into play as she expertly layers tiny bits of Coloraid paper that have been cut by hand into collage format. Her process is labor intensive under a magnifying lens, but the final, almost photographic images of people or places is awe inspiring with hints of shadow and light that only someone with acute senses could envision.
