CONCEPTUAL ARTIST
Born in Tofino, Vancouver Island, BC and relocated to NYC in the late 70’s, Richard Art Hambleton is the Godfather of Public Art who used the urban canvas to evoke public reaction. He is reputed as an elusive genius after the early deaths of his colleagues Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring. Hambleton is the original American Pop Expressionist with unforgettable images that have permeated our collective consciousness for four decades now. His celebrated works include acclaimed series known as Image Mass Murder, Marlboro Country, Shadow Man, Shadow Head Portraits, Horse and Riders, and Beautiful Paintings. Hambleton died on October 29, 2017 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
