Monochromes

Susan Breen

Susan Breen‘s monochromes are explorations of consciousness, bridging the abstract and figurative, like unearthed memories or fragments of dreams. Studies in contrast, the limited palette evokes both the first and last light of the day. The abstracted imagery, and movement or state of flux often implied in the work, reflect the painting process–a kind of archeological methodology that begins with a saturated panel from which paint is removed, layered and sanded, to reveal each painting’s “essential” image.
