Group Exhibition
January – March 2025
Woodward Gallery

Woodward Gallery is excited to announce the opening of ❅ Winter Mix ❅, an exhibition that explores movement, travel, and the pursuit of new perspectives. In this exhibition, each participating artist presents a strong narrative, contributing to the overarching theme of exploration, through the literal roads we travel or the metaphorical journeys we embark on.

From celestial landscapes to the bustling energy of side shows, ❅ Winter Mix ❅ delves into the essence of physical and emotional motion. Featured works in the exhibition challenge viewers to reflect on our paths, the unknown territories we encounter, and the stories that emerge along the way.

Richard Hambleton (1952 – 2017) – Naples

In Naples, Hambleton invokes the rich history of Naples through a bright yellow pigment. The city of Naples is known for the color yellow, which inspired Hambleton to paint a cosmopolitan shadow, holding a cigarette, emerging from an arched doorway. This work, which was first exhibited in Milan in 1984, continues to intrigue with its stark, evocative composition.

Margaret MorrisonStep Right Up

Morrison’s Step Right Up is a poignant commentary on global unrest. The work captures a man pointing toward a distant billowing smoke cloud, positioning the viewer as a captive audience to social and worldwide events unfolding before them. With this piece, Morrison invites reflection on the spectacle of modern life and our role within it.

Allan D’Arcangelo (1930 – 1998) – Forever Chic

In Forever Chic, D’Arcangelo brings his signature Pop style to life with an image of American highways. Recently featured in the Petersen Automotive Museum’s Eyes on the Road Art of the Automobile Landscape exhibition, the work presents two distinct roads —one straight, one curved— reminding us to carefully choose our path in life. D’Arcangelo’s exploration of iconic American imagery encourages us to reflect on the roads we travel, both physically and philosophically.

Jose Aurelio BaezGoing Home

Baez’s Going Home depicts a solitary journey through a tunnel, symbolizing the path to self-discovery and the eventual finding of one’s place. This introspective piece encourages viewers to consider their journey and the internal roads they navigate in search of meaning.

Maura Robinson (1956 – 2010) – Voices of My Night

Robinson’s Voices of My Night offers a spiritual presence, encapsulated within an intricately hand-carved and moon gold, gilded frame. The abstract forms in this work radiate a soulful energy, connecting the viewer to a deeper, metaphysical realm. Robinson’s esoteric imagery invites contemplation of unseen forces and the night’s mysterious voice.

FoxitoVantage Point

In Vantage Point, Foxito reimagines Van Gogh’s Starry Night through a futuristic lens. With a galactic cityscape and celestial bodies interwoven with elements of artificial intelligence and colonialism, the work speaks to the intersection of technology, history, and the cosmos—offering a fresh perspective on familiar landscapes.

❅ Winter Mix ❅ is a vibrant celebration of artistic expression and exploration, inviting viewers to consider how movement, perspective, and narrative shape our understanding of the world. The exhibition runs throughout March 2025 at Woodward Gallery located at 132A Eldridge Street, NYC, available 24/7, in our street-level windows, by private appointment, on our website, and Artsy.net.
