With heavy hearts we share the passing of our artist Deborah Claxton (1950 – 2025).
Deborah was an integral part of the Woodward Gallery family for 25 years. A sculptor at heart, she mastered the art of cut paper, building her intricate compositions from the inside out. With reverence and precision, she reverse-engineered each hand-cut paper painting; layering from the bottom outward, constructing dimensional worlds of texture, shadow, and light with hundreds of bits of paper.
Her work was as meticulous as she was—quietly powerful, deeply thoughtful, and utterly original.
Deborah’s legacy lives on in the intricate beauty she brought into the world, and in the lives she touched along the way.
We will miss her dearly.
